欧州前場でユーロはポンドに対して14ヶ月ぶりの高値を更新した。ポンドは 4月英製造業PMI が54.6と事前予想の56.9、三月時の57.1を大きく下回る結果を受け下落。しかし、分岐点とされる５０のレベルはなお上回った。これを受け、EURGBPのペアは10:00 GMTの時点で0.8978に急伸、ECBがユーロ圏の物価上昇に歯止めを掛けるため更なる金利の引き上げを実行すると予想する投資家は、同時に英中銀金融政策委員会が過去３回のミーティングにおいて、中銀自身が設定しているインフレ率に比べて二倍で推移しているにも関わらずインフレについての対策を控え、VATの引き上げ効果は近いうちに収まるとの見解を示し、UKにおける継続維持できる経済成長がインフレにより阻まれる可能性があることから、0.9000のレベルに到達することを期待している。このクロスペアは現在89.72でトレードされており、数ヶ月ぶりの高値に接近している。また、GBPUSDのペアは現在1.6475でトレードされており、ここ４日間の下値の1.647に近づいている。
